Torfaen Citizens Advice Bureau have received £20,000 from the Postcode Trust for their ‘Smart About Money’ project. Smart about Money will help families to manage on low incomes through a programme of financial education and knowledge of their legal rights.

The service can be accessed from Monday 1st April, every Monday and Friday between 10am – 3pm. Those who need help outside of these times are advised to come to one of the Citizen’s Advice Torfaen’s drop-in session or call Adviceline on 03444 77 20 20.

Congratulating the organisation, Mr Thomas-Symonds said:

“I’m delighted to hear that Torfaen Citizens Advice Bureau have received this funding: this award will make a real difference to the local community.

“I also encourage any other local groups and charities needing additional project funding to consider applying to the Postcode Community Trust, the Postcode Local Trust or the People’s Postcode Trust when the next funding round opens. This type of funding can help you achieve more for your charity and the local community.”

Commenting Malcolm Fleming, Head of Public Affairs for People’s Postcode Lottery said:

“We are delighted that our players are helping to fund thousands of local charities and community groups across the country, including those in Torfaen. People’s Postcode Lottery was established to raise funds for good causes. Supporting the excellent work of local organisations can help them make a huge difference to the causes and communities they serve.”

Mal Edgson, Chief Executive of Citizen’s Advice Bureau stated:

“We are delighted to have been awarded this funding from The Peoples Postcode Lottery Trust. We have known for a long time that households in many of our communities are struggling to get by. We wanted to provide some very practical help to manage budgets and access other helping services that will relieve the stress and pressure on families with rising costs and falling incomes.

“We want to help people find a little bit of money to put by each week for Christmas, birthdays and emergencies. The project will be delivered from TRAC2’s offices in Trevethin and is aimed but not restricted to people who live in that area.”

To date, players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised more than £393 million for over 5,500 good causes across Great Britain.

Local charities and community groups can apply for funding from the Postcode Community Trust, the Postcode Local Trust and the People’s Postcode Trust.  The next funding round opens on 31st July. For more information, please visit the trusts’ websites:
