Today Nick Thomas-Symonds announced the launch of this year’s Aviva Community Fund and encouraged applications from across Torfaen.

The Fund awards funding of up to £25,000 for local community projects across a range of categories. It aims to offer support and funding to causes that make a real difference in the local community. Members of the public are invited to put forward an idea that could involve solving a local problem, speeding up an ongoing project or help in some other way.

The Aviva Community Fund will finance over 800 projects across four different fund levels and six categories, spreading the awards to communities throughout the UK. The six project categories to choose from include health and wellbeing, supporting the younger generation, sport in the community and the environment.

Projects that receive enough votes from supports will reach the finals, where a specially selected judging panel picks the winners and awards the funds. Last year there were over 430 separate winners and this year will be bigger and better than ever with over 800 awards to win.

Applications can be made until 11th October at http://www.aviva.co.uk/good-thinking/community-fund/ and the winners will be announced in January.

Mr Thomas-Symonds said, ‘I am pleased to support the excellent opportunity offered by the Aviva Community Fund and encourage people from across Torfaen to send in their ideas. This is a fantastic chance for local people to support a project that means a lot to them.’
