The Shadow Home Secretary today issued a statement calling on the Prime Minister to show leadership and commit to act on the complex issues underpinning recent protests.

Nick Thomas-Symonds MP released the statement after meeting police representatives alongside the Leader of the Labour Party, Sir Keir Starmer MP, ahead of this weekends planned Black Lives Matter protests. In his statement, Mr Thomas-Symonds MP stated that he had no doubt about the ability of police officers to respond to these events, and called on the Government to recognise the protests by setting out steps for meaningful action on tackling racism.

Mr Thomas-Symonds MP concluded:

“This is a powerful moment in our history and it is important the Prime Minister is not found to be wanting.”
