The Shadow Home Secretary, Nick Thomas-Symonds MP has today written to the Government demanding answers to the questions raised by the Prime Minister’s chief adviser’s breach of lockdown restrictions.

Mr Thomas-Symonds MP’s letter follows reports in the media that emerged last week, which detailed the 260-mile trip Dominic Cummings made with members of his family experiencing coronavirus symptoms. This trip breached the Government’s guidance and Mr Cummings was subsequently visited by police.

The Government’s response to Mr Cumming’s breach has created confusion. In his letter, Mr Thomas-Symonds MP asked the Home Secretary for clarity on whether guidance to Police Officers had been updated in light of the incident.

Mr Thomas-Symonds concluded:

“Police Officers have put themselves at extraordinary risk to keep people safe during this crisis, whilst also working with great skill to interpret and explain public health legislation. The confusion and misinformation caused by the Government’s response to these revelations appears to make this work even more difficult. I find this deeply concerning and will do all I can to try to support the police’s efforts by requesting greater clarity on this issue.”
