Today, 7 April 2020, Nick Thomas-Symonds MP has written to the Home Secretary following his appointment to Labour’s front bench team.

In his first act as Shadow Home Secretary, Mr Thomas-Symonds MP called on Priti Patel to provide additional funding for organisations tackling domestic abuse. He set out six proposals for the consideration of the Home Secretary, including extending emergency accommodation provision and ensuring access to PPE for all staff in the violence against women and girls sector.

Mr Thomas-Symonds MP, in his letter stated:

“We are seeing initiatives such as these being coordinated in some areas of the country, but such is the scale of the risk and challenge it is vital that government step in to provide additional leadership in this area. Some of the most at risk people in our communities simply cannot afford for these vital services to be undermined at a time when they are needed most.”
