Nick Thomas-Symonds and Lynne Neagle joined Torfaen Council today to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II, with the historic event being marked with a planting of a tree in Pontypool Park.

There are three trees being planted across the borough, one in Cwmbran boating lake, one in Pontypool Park, and one in Blaenavon which was planted by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their recent St David’s’ Day visit.

The tree planting is part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. Everyone across the UK is being invited to plant trees from October 2021, through to the end of the Jubilee year in 2022.

The Queen’s Green Canopy will create a network of individual trees, avenues, copses and whole woodlands in honour of The Queen’s service and the legacy she has built.

Mr Thomas-Symonds and Ms Neagle commented: “It is an honour and privilege to be invited to join Torfaen Council as they plant a tree to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Her Majesty the Queen has shown an unprecedented 70 years of dedicated and unwavering public service to the United Kingdom, and from both us and the people of Torfaen, we send our heartfelt thanks to Her Majesty”.
